More countries turning to teaching Math the Singapore way

So, basically, the Singapore approach to teaching Mathematics have crossed its own borders and into as many as 14 countries.

As reported in the Straits Times Singapore, studies in Britain, India and the United States have shown that the test scores of their students at the primary school level improve when they are taught in the Singapore way.

Some benefits of the Singapore approach to teaching maths:

1. Operates according to a "spiral" design, meaning that textbooks are sequential in nature and build on concepts and skills that students have learnt previously.

In my opinion, students should only be taught the next level when the previous level has been mastered.

2. A 2015 study found that the pictorial approach was effective when teaching South African learners who have special needs and a language barrier.

Mathematics is a universal language. It can be spoken through the C-P-A method. C being Concrete, whereby learners use objects to represent the questions. P being Pictorial and pictures can mean drawing circles or bars to represent the question. Lastly, A being abstract and students use only equations and mathematical formula to represent the question.

3. Students are engaged in the process of learning concepts and problem-solving skills, instead of blindly memorising formulas and rules.

In Mathematics, we are teaching the students how to react to problems logically.
